Books

In 1996 Prentice Hall International published my first major text book, Cost and Management Accounting. The main text was accompanied by a student's manual and a teacher's pack. The book was very well received by students but not so well received by lecturers and teachers. However, germain Boer, a highly respected academic management accountant from the USA wrote and told me that my section on coding was the best he had ever come across. Similarly, Dr Robert L Hurt, Professor of Accounting at California State Polytechnic was so entranced by my coding materials that he put them in his own book: RL Hurt (2008) Accounting Information Systems: basic concepts and current issues McGraw Hill Irwin

Articles

I have written and continue to write articles and cases for magazines and other clients. My first ever article was written in response to the way that banking students always seemed to be confused by the double entry bookkeeping system: I wrote an article for The Banker journal and CitiBank adopted it as part of their training materials.

I was pleased by an article on standard costing variance analysis that the ACCA published in their Student Accountant magazine.

I was delighted when Accountancy, the journal of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales published an article of mine on Benford's Law. Benford's law is an absolute fascination that all accountants and many others ought to know all about.

I am currently writing arictles on a regular basis on both accounting and spreadsheeting topics for a nascent UK accounting body. Some of these materials appear in this new book, Excel 2007 with Excel Master.

Web Sites

I first started playing round with web sites around 1997 but finally got serious with them when i bought and maintained my own domain based web site in 2001. Since then that web site, www.duncanwil.co.uk has grown and grown and these days it is not unusual for me to attract 40,000 unique visitors to that site, let alone repeat visitors. That web site was initially aimed at accountants and accounting students but since then it has come to include general business materials, spreadsheeting materials, materials on International Financial Reporting Standards and much more.

This current web site, to accompany my new book, Excel 2007 with Excel Master, is aimed at introducing the book and myself to you.
