This section of the web site contains case studies that doin't come under the headings of the main element of the work we are trying to do here.

The first case study in this section relates to the allocation of students to end of term special classes together with the preparation of registration and attendance registers for the students and classes. This case was commissioned by the senior teacher in charge of these special classes and student registrations.

Allocation of Students Case Study

The purpose of this case study is to demonstrate the solution to a student allocation problem. The problem is that at the end of an academic year, a year group of students need to attend either

  • a day long course or
  • a morning AND an afternoon course

The senior teacher in charge had gathered student preferences and he had entered those preferences in a spreadsheet to record those preferences: he had then used his allocations manually to create registration lists for the courses.
